About the Book

Daddy is leaving for the war. He leaves his son a pad of paper and a box of crayons. He asks his son to draw pictures of things that happen while he is away. The son is very sad at first and doesn't want to do much of anything. But, after being sad and thinking on it, he remembers his Daddy's request. He gets out his pad of paper and crayons and starts drawing for his Daddy. He is very choosy with his colors and tries to draw his feelings about what is going on and what he wants to happen. He thinks that his daddy and all the Mommies and Daddies should be able to come home to their children as soon as possible. He creates things that will protect the soldiers and also ways to bring them home faster. The book closes with him wishing on a star and hoping his Daddy will be home soon because he misses him so much.

About the Author

Laura Wooten, whose own niece, will be leaving to serve our country in the United States Air Force in February, and has several close friends who have sons serving as well, writes this book. Her daughter, Kelly, did the drawings for the book when she was 16 years old. She painted each one by hand in oil. This book is the product of a combined mother-daughter effort. Laura is first and foremost extremely thankful to God for everyone and everything in her life. She makes her home in the high altitude range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, where the Pines and Aspen trees grow abundantly. She is the mother of three wonderful children, devoted wife, author, and business woman. She and her husband Mike take care of their many animals, which include Labrador Retrievers of all colors, horses, chickens and doves. She loves horseback riding, gardening and growing her own fruits and vegetables in their greenhouse. She loves to be home and have a bonfire every weekend that she can, roasting marshmallows and cooking outdoors. She and her husband are avid bear and antique collectors, incorporating both into their own business. Her family are her best friends and she loves to spend as much time as possible with them. She feels very blessed to have such a wonderful family.
