About the Book

Kate and the Family Tree is a story about a little girl who is excited to find out the secret that her mother has been working on. She struggles with many thoughts of what the secret could be including a new dog, a trip, going out to supper and other exciting secrets that appeal to children of her age. She implores her "Mom" to show her the secret as her mother has promised and is puzzled and then worried as she discovers what the secret turns out to be. Children will enjoy seeing the pictures of ancestors that the book contains as well as working with the family tree oriented activities that appear at the end of the book

About the Author

Margaret Mitchell Bernard was born in Montreal, Quebec, educated in Quebec and has spent most of her life working in the field of education in that province. Kate is a real little girl discovered when Ms. Bernard began her search of her Mitchell family ancestors. As Kate had died when she was very young most family members knew little of her existence or in effect what had truly happened to her. The search for Kate and her resting place evolved into a passion for Ms. Bernard, a passion that is still ongoing and has inspired her to write this book to encourage other families and especially children to learn about their ancestors and family members. Ms. Bernard presently lives in Bonaventure, Quebec with her dog Maggie, a Yorshire Terrier. "Kate and the Family Tree" is her first fiction book for children.
