About the Author
Born in Ceylon (Sri Lanka today) in 1923, of Dutch Ancestry. Had extreme intelligence from early years and at School was jumped 2 Grades a couple of times. Could read a Book on a Subject he was interested in and remember it in full. Physically active and very mischievous, always planning escapades for his brother and friends. His Mother guided all that energy into cooking, sewing, and running the dairy; plus monthly purchasing of everything required for the home and farm. Was in the pre-University Grade at 16 when World War 2 started. The Secondary and Higher Schools were all converted into Hospitals by the British for wounded from the Western Front, and regular Education ceased for the duration of the War. Studied Surveying and Draughting for Civil Engineering. Worked during W.W.2 for the British Air Ministry Works Directorate on construction of Aerodromes in the jungles, in the War against the Japanese. After the War worked as a Contractor on Jungle Clearing and Irrigation Works for the Ceylon Government in the same areas. Later worked on construction of Rural Hospitals and Maternity Homes in various parts of the Island, for the Medical Department; followed by some years on construction of roads and 2500 Colonists Cottages yearly on a Large Colonization Scheme. Married in early 1951. Worked for British Consulting Engineers on construction of Bridges, Surface Drainage Schemes, High Rise Buildings, and Modernization of Ceylon's Largest Graphite Mine. Was Resident Engineer for a complete Textile Mill covering 640,000 sq. ft. From Start to Finish and in Operation, in one year. Emigrated to Canada (British Columbia) with family of wife and six daughters in 1965. Worked at Vancouver B.C. for 5 years and at Port Hardy B.C. for 29 years. Living in Mexico since early 1999.
