About the Book

Baltimore Briefs shares the best true stories about the good guys and the scoundrels, the characters and events, and the ironies and comedies that one Maryland attorney witnessed during his diverse forty-year legal career. John Lewin, a seasoned Baltimore trial lawyer, provides a captivating glimpse into the world of courtroom behavior—complete with all its unanticipated quirks and peculiarities—as he reveals intriguing tales from characters caught up in prostitution sting operations, government conspiracies, shoplifting, and bank robberies. From the events leading up to the bust to the courtroom scenes to the conviction and subsequent punishment, Lewin highlights some of the most unpredictable cases in Maryland’s history including the rape accusation against a Baltimore Colt football player, a price-fixing scheme by retail sales managers in the oil industry, and the defense of a drug laboratory accused of manufacturing a narcotic drug that allegedly caused a patient’s gangrene and eventual amputation of her three fingers. Baltimore Briefs provides an insider’s honest view of the Maryland legal system, its attorneys, and those they defend.
