Chapter 1
Thursday, 6:00 p.m.
Kiersten woke up groggy and disoriented. Her head throbbed. Her blonde hair was matted with blood. Every muscle in her body felt as if someone had pummeled her. She was unable to see anything but the blackness that engulfed her. Was she blind due to the knock she had taken on the head? Her eyes were open; she could blink and move them side to side. No, she thought to herself. Wherever she was, it was just plain dark.
She was cold and scared out of her wits. Her memory failed to produce answers to questions that she desperately needed answered. How had she gotten here? Where, exactly, was she? And who was it that had taken her against her will to bring her to—where ever here was?
The cold earth against her skin told her that most of her clothes had been removed. All that remained were her bra, panties, and socks. It did not tell her, however, where she was.
A cellar?
A cave?
Then, as if on cue, she felt it; a feeling of something lurking, staring—watching—waiting, somewhere in the darkness, for what, she had no clue.
“Who are you?” she asked, her voice quivering.
“Why have you brought me here?”
Silence.
“What do you want with me? Please, just tell me what you want.”
All she heard, however, was silence shouting back through an endless pit of blackness.
Fear coursed through her body. Fear of what was going to happen to her, of not knowing who or why. But in the eyes of this sixteen-year-old girl who had really never known the true definition of the word fear in concrete terms until now, she feared not knowing when more than anything.
Why was she here?
Torture?
Murder?
Or something even more horrifying––rape?
“Oh, God!” she said quivering, the thought now etched in the back of her mind, letter by letter.
The thought of being kidnapped was terrifying in and of itself, but the thought of having her virginity breached by someone unknown to her; being touched by a complete stranger whose idea of a good time was to violate young women; she would sooner welcome death.
As rape, a word that though spoken softly or even whispered, roared through her mind, a single—haunting, one word question kept repeating itself.

About the Book

Ronald J. Van Wynsberg was raised in Kewanee, Illinois, loving anything that scared him. He and his wife, Marie, reside in Westville, New Jersey where he works full time for the United States Postal Service. He is a veteran of the United States Navy. He loves to read, golf, and of course, write.
