Many years ago Ted Nugent did a rock concert in Spokane, Washington. During the concert an audience member who had come in with a gun, shot ‘the Nuge.’ After this Ted Nugent was quoted as saying the one place he wanted to go back to was Spokane, the place he got shot. They both believed in guns. In many ways, as I reflect upon it now, I believe I was crazier than the Nuge. I ran to a community already overflowing with physicians and surgeons, with a transient community and a diminishing farming community, and a miniscule and declining health insurance base and thought I could practice as a surgeon with the mentality of the 1950s. Back then a surgeon needed the four ‘As’ which were: Availability, Affability, Affordability, and Ability. I was available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. I had always been affable. I loved people and helping them get better was my avocation - my calling. I was certainly affordable. Most of the time I worked for free as it turned out and I would suppose that that is more than affordable. About the Book
This is the story of a young man who was born in The East, grew up there and in the Pacific Northwest (USA), and was educated in Mexico, and the East Coast (USA). Thereafter, he trained to become a general surgeon in the Mideast (USA), a.k.a. the North Coast (USA) , then a Heart Surgeon in the Deep South (USA). After practicing Chest Surgery for several years he developed an illness that prevented him from pursuing his vocation – Surgery – and found his avocation – his family. As has been said before, as Yogi Berra said, “It ain’t over, till it’s over!”
About the Author
The author, Robin K. Dhillon, MD. MBA, having now lived half a century, with learning attendant on medical school, general surgery, chest surgery, and a Masters in Business Administration, is hoping to grow up and earn the admiration of the people most important in his life. His wife and children.
