Unexpectedly, the mermaids sat up. They looked around, startled, and then fled underwater without a word. Darrell frowned in confusion at the mermaid’s odd departure. Did magical creatures have no need for goodbyes? “I wonder why they left all of the sudden,” Joey said, voicing everyone’s thoughts. Stephanie murmured, “They seemed frightened.” Pippa sighed and yawned, “Don’t worry. The mermaids are natural pranksters. This is probably a trick they made up.” Darrell was unsure about Pippa’s explanation, but quickly forgot about it. He had other things to worry about, after all. Like, where he was going to sleep tonight, and how he could get a power as cool as Joeys. All of the sudden, there was a rustling in the trees around them. The noise seemed to come from all directions. It stopped all the thoughts in Darrell’s mind, like a river dam. Normally, noises didn’t bother him, but this rustling around him came from all directions, and it was followed by an uneasy feeling that started to bubble up in the pit of his stomach, like a pot full of boiling water. Darrell spun around, looking for the source of the noise. Wherever his back was turned, however, it seemed like someone was watching him. He felt exposed, vulnerable, and wondered if this was what a hunted antelope felt like before a lion attacked. He then heard a whoosh noise coming from behind him. It sounded like a sudden burst of wind. He looked around at Pippa, and his siblings. By the looks on their faces, he could tell they had heard the noise too. Darrell felt like they were being surrounded by something sinister, and by the look on Pippa’s, Stephanie’s, and Joey’s faces they felt the same way. Somehow, Darrell didn’t think this was a clever mermaid prank…

Once they stumbled upon the secrets their friend had been keeping, they found themselves meeting centaurs, making potions, vomiting at mutated werewolves, and gossiping with mermaids. However, darkness was lurking behind every corner, and evil was stalking them from behind the brightest places. They found themselves fighting for their lives, battling dark creatures they never knew existed, and learing that nothing was as it seemed in this new world that they had become apart of. About the Author
I, though a young writer, have an infinate passion for writing and reading. I've taken advanced classes for liturature, along with being involved in poetry/creative writing classes. I'm very intelligent for my age. When I was thirteen, I was reading at a high school level. I believe I am imaginative, and creative, with a thirst for fantasy and make believe! My mind is a swirling carnival ride, constantly spinning out ideas like a spider web. I've always wanted to accomplish great things, and I eagerly strive to make my dreams come ture. I intend to continue writing, despite the writers block that sometimes occurs, or the hardships I may cross. I want to show everyone what I am made of, and prove that even teenagers can be succesful authors; along with improving myself as life goes on. I currently live in Fountain, Colorado, and spend most of my high school life keeping up with homework, and spending weekends with my friends and family. My goals, aside from becoming a succesful author, include visting Disney World, graduating college and high school, and to never stop believing in make believe. I adore reading, and I hope my book will create more activly reading kids, and spark their attention, as well as their imagination.
