About the Book

Franz Weber was the last born of nine children during the onset of the “great depression” and was unknowingly, both by himself and his parents, a prodigious child. Despite the ambience of the “hard times” that surrounded him, his innate drive to stuffy music was pitifully passing him by. At age twelve he accidentally meets and befriends Mrs. Dorothy Winter, a disheveled old lady of whom is suffering from a nervous breakdown, but is in reality a wealthy, worldly renowned concert pianist. The reasons form Dorothy’s distressful state are carefully shrouded by her, however young Franz’s very presence salubriously comforts her. They form a quid pro quo agreement in which he comes to her beach house for lessons and she eventually reenters society. His “gifts” of memory and comprehension soon become clear. He auditions for a scholarship with three music conservatories and is accepted by all, as Dorothy contracts the building of a new mansion on the Maine Coast. However, the Korean War forces Franz into the military for the ensuing four years, all but ending his music studied. Dorothy finally recommences her career and Franz takes his discharge from the Air Force in Europe and enters the conservatory in Zurich - living only thirty miles away in Dorothy’s villa. He falls in love with a doctor’s daughter - a cellist at the conservatory. Dorothy’s mental problem is revealed along with a mystery, which lead to intrigue. A grievous and uncanny twist of events occurs, initiating an international manhunt for felons and stolen money – resulting in a trial. A murderous prison break ensues, which leads to fiendish, bloody revenge. Franz performs his professional debut in Paris, followed by another concert in West Berlin, Germany, and two more in Switzerland before returning to the United States.

About the Author

Otis Lee Dubé was born and reared in the State of Maine. At the age of eighteen he entered the military, serving his country overseas during the Korean War. Upon discharge he traveled alone to Southern California and entered college under the G.I. Bill, majoring in pharmacy with a minor in medicine. To supplement increasing expenses he joined a printer’s union, and took gainful employment in the color separation business, learning technical photographic pre-press composition methods used in four-color process lithographic printing. After being involved for over a year in the drug business, he found it both unrewarding and unchallenging. Thus, after two years’ experience in printing sales, he spent nearly ninety-five per cent of his professional life being contentedly self-employed in the printing industry and electronics. He and his wife, Rita, now reside in Arizona and have a son and daughter along with three grandchildren living in Georgia. This, his first book is the byproduct of convalescing from three major surgeries after retiring. Recalling a simple note a professor jotted on a term paper, “you have a flair,” prompted him to attempt writing.
