Deborah Duffield is trying to encourage victims of sexual assault to get the help they need.
Imprisoned in a Body with a Life Sentence is Duffield's autobiographical account of her journey through sexual, mental and physical assault.
Adopted at the age of 3 and a half, Duffield endured close to 12 years of assault from her adoptive father. When she was 15, she left home and headed to Kentucky. From there, she travelled the United States and Canada, finally returning home only after her adoptive father had died.
It took Duffield three tries before she was able to finish writing this book.
"The fist time I tried to write was out of anger and the second time it was all about poor me, I was looking for sympathy", says Duffield. "The third time there was no anger, no anything. I just had to get it out, it was part of my healing."
Although writing the book was a very emotional process, it was also played a very important role in Duffield's emotional recovery.
"Writing the book was like living it all over again." she says. "I used to have nightmares, but once I started writing, the nightmares stopped. It feels like I've got closure."
Duffield is hoping that her story can encourage other people that are going through, or have been through, what she experienced. She also wants to educate other people on the reality of sexual, mental and physical assault.
"Predators can be anyone, preachers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, mothers, fathers or a complete stranger" says Duffield. "There is alot of abuse going on that's not being told. victims and survivors should get the help they need, its hard, but it can be done."
To help victims deal with the emotional effects of assault, Duffield has been volunteering on the crisis lines at the Sexual Assault centre for the past three years.
"It's exciting to know that you can help someone else out of the spot that you were in at one time." she says.

About the Author
The author of this book was born in Toronto Nov, 7 1955. She is 4'11. She left her home where she was raised. At age 15 she left and never came back until the perpetrator had died,but the other one still lives. She travelled across Ontario and part of the USA. Seeking for normalcy where ever she could, and found where to get the right treatment and tools to be the person she always wanted to be. She has went to many counsellors with no success until she came back to the place where she grow up in and the abuse had taken place. She had to come back to solve the problem and start on her healing journey. The book is part of that journey. Now she helps others in there journey as much as she is able.
