About the Book
Paws is a selfish, opinionated cat "whose God" as St. Paul says, "is her belly." Yet, despite her compulsive, often questionable lifestyle, she has moments of grace inspired by Frideswide, the contemplative cat who lives next door in the clergy house. There she counsels Paws with her frequent problems and her various forays into the social, spiritual and political arenas. The book is charmingly illustrated by Nancy and Sandra Walton. Patrick O'Leary contributes profound photos.
About the Author
Betty Vogel was born in New Westminster, BC on December 13, 1931. She received her B.A. (German and Latin) and her M.A. (German Literature) from U.B.C. and her M.L.S. from the Univesity of California (Berkeley). In 1953/54 she was an exchange student at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany where she studied German literature and theology. After a half century of writing tortured autobiographical novels which she could never sell, Betty turned to documenting the life of Paws. In her blissful retirement, Betty enjoys describing Paws' encounters with other animals, human beings and her various forays into the social, spiritual and political arenas. In addition to some humorous articles in library periodicals, Betty has also published A Librarian is to Read (Vancouver, Blue Flower Press, 1988) and Pilgrimage (Vancouver, Blue Flower Press 1994).
