There are some mental patients who refer to themselves as either current or former, “psychiatric inmates.” Hence, the title of Philip A. Kumin’s autobiographical account of his journey through the mental health system, Ex-Inmate In Exile.

About the Author

Phil Kumin, 64, has been an activist in the mental patients’ liberation movement since 1985. He is not one of the founding activists of that movement, which began in the early 1970’s. He lives alone in the downtown Baltimore neighborhood of Mt. Vernon. He has never been married, and he has no children.
