About the Author
Dominador G. Robles belongs to the second generation of immigrants. He is a Mechanical Engineer. He arrived in the United States on August 17, 1968, under the 3rd preference known as the preference for professional immigrants.
His original destination was New York where his wife was assigned in the Philippine Consulate in 1964 during New York World's Fair Exposition, but friends and relatives tried to persuade the couple to stay in San Francisco for a month where the couple fell in love with the city by the Bay, San Francisco.
Mr. Robles started his career first as Advance Trainee engineer in the Federal Government under the Defense department, Naval Sea Systems Command in San Francisco.
Three years later, he transferred to SUPSHIP, Conversion and Repair, USN, Hunter Point, San Francisco, California, as a Project Engineer in the Engineering and Design Division. As Project Engineer, he was involved in multi-million projects on naval ship's design, repair and overhaul. He coordinated with the engineers of all the engineering disciplines; structural, mechanical, electrical and electronics and occasionally performed overseas shipcheck with a team of engineers for ship's design and overhaul.
During his services in the federal government, Mr. Robles has received various awards and certificates for his excellent services. He also received monetary awards for such services and achievements.
Mr. Robles is an ex-member of the following: American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE); Newspaper Institute of America and is currently enrolled in Harcourt Learning Direct, one of World's leader in Distance Education for freelance writing.
Mr. Robles has written over a hundred articles in the Bay Area Newspapers since 1968. He has written a book; Footprints: on the Sands of Time -- An Odyssey of an Immigrant in Search of the American Dream, in which he relates his rich experiences and deep devotion to his country he has called, "America My Life and My Home."
Among his extra curricular activities were: Ex-1st vice President, Board of Director and Bulletin Editor of the San Fancisco Highlands Lions Club; Ex-Educational Vice President Pennisula Toastmasters Club, Ex-Executive Officer U.S. Veterans Foundation, U.S.A. San Francisco chapter. He is currently and officer, Publicity at Pittsburgh Historical Society in Pittsburg, California. He is a graduate of the Newspaper Institute of America (NIA) 1980, Harcourt Learning Direct, Scranton, PA, 2001.
Mr. Robles was born on February 12, 1930 in Carino, Paniqui, Tarlac, Philippines. He comes from a family of professionals. His parents, the late Mariano A. Robles and Lucia B. Gonzales of Paniqui, Tarlac, Philippines were school teachers and were Paniquinian Parents of the Year (1950s)the oldest brother, Bienvenido, is a lawyer and former college professor, now lives with his wife and daughter (with children) in Houston, Texas; Benjamin (deceased at 21) was a school teacher, Eliodoro is a former Lt. Col. in the Philippine Army and First Lieutenant Army of the United states holder of a masters degree from Cornell Univeristy as well as Ph. D. in political economy from Harvard and Taft Universities, married to the former Rosario P. Lavitoria now lives in Richomond with children; Evangeline, a retired nurse, married to Alfonso Santos, lawyer, lives in Pittsburg, California;with her children; Emilio, ex-serviceman (deceased) with family in San Diego; Conchita, a teacher and substitute assistant principal of a school in San Francisco Unified School District and holder of an Ed.D. lives with her husband Theodore Aivazian, in Bay Point California; Filipina, a school teacher still lives in Paniqui, Tarlac, with her lawyer husband, Ex-Mayor Crispiniano E. Lamorena, with all professionally successful children; Mariano, Jr. (deceased at nine months old) Rosalinca, the youngest, a nurse, lives in San Francisco, California with her three children. Mr Robles is married to Rosita Robles. They have no children.
