About the Book

A popular history professor misses a Monday morning lecture, having been brutally murdered over the weekend. This police procedural, set in Arizona, introduces Lieutenant Ruben Keene, who gets more than he bargained for--the disappearance of a child, a hint of espionage, money laundering and a crash course on the history of the Spanish conquistadors who explored the American Southwest for God, glory and gold, not necessarily in that order. During his investigation, Keene has to deal with a dapper Chinese-American medical examiner, an aggressive newspaper reporter, an athletic FBI agent, a Hungarian immigrant and several attractive women.
