About the Book
The Black Diamondback, is an offbeat western about a Black cowboy, Sammy, a runaway slave who heads for the freedom of the open west to begin a new life for himself... He discovers that he is not accepted by the whites and because he is mistreated he becomes embittered and finally turns to crime... He makes a name for himself as a fast draw with a gun... There is a grim irony to this tale, for Sam - renamed Diamondback - meets up with the son of his former master and challenges him to a draw... Sammy loses, and this ends a sordid, painful career of a man who could never find a place for himself in the white world... It is a fast-paced tale with believable characterization and a solid plot...
About the Author
Born near Ringling, Oklahoma on November 8, 1917. The first book I remember reading was, THIRTY ONE YEARS ON THE PLAINS AND IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH KIT CARSON. I have always been infatuated with every thing western; my first job after Louise and I were married was on a ranch near Poolville, Oklahoma. I have worked on a farm in the days when we used a mule to pull a Georgia stock or double shovel. I have worked in the oil field as a roustabout and a roughneck, I have driven trucks, worked as a cement truck driver to cement oil wells. I have worked in a steel mill and as a mechanic on gasoline, diesel and aircraft engines. I have served as a Gospel preacher in four different states. I love to read and write. As the old song goes, "I don't get around much any more."
