About the Book

Hubert Goodwin, eldest of six children, the first-born son of Christian parents, is determined to discover life without the anchor of Christ. His journey will take him from his native English village of Hulney to the rugged country of India where he will learn to fight as a soldier and possibly die in the service of the East India Company.

Set in the late 1700s and early 1800s, this true story will touch your life in a profound way! The Goodwin family who were "well to do in the world, and descended from a family of some distinction," lived in Hulney, a tiny village in the north of Alnwick in Northern England. By historical account, this tiny village saw Margaret, wife of Henry VI, take refuge in its ancient church. Also, one hundred heroes of Flodden Field rested there on their return from victory.
