About the Book
My Road has led me on a fascinating and unexpected journey. It is a collection of poetry and prose, which has emerged in the last six years or so, and deals with the most diverse range of themes and topics imaginable, all in some way linked to the busy tapestry of my life to date.
In the autumn of 2003, I decided to put together in the form of a book, all the songs, poems and prose pieces that I had written in the previous few years, in the hopes that with a bit of luck, it might some day be published. My overwhelming feeling regarding this collection is one of mystery. There I was, negotiating the twists and turns, bumps and potholes of every day life, when I was hijacked (albeit in the nicest possible way!) in mid-journey, and taken in a very unexpected direction. Truthfully, I could not begin to understand or explain what has given rise to such a rush of creative energy. There have been many times in the past few years, when I could hardly keep up with the pace of a muse, who didn't seem to need any rest! In this book, there are 208 pages of prose, poetry and songs. For most of the songs and poems, I decided to do an introduction in which I explain, as best I can, what has been the source of inspiration, and how they "happened" (I use this verb quite a lot, as nothing in this book has come about due to any conscious decisions on my part)
I feel very privileged to have had the experiences, which have given rise to this book, and sincerely hope that its readers may, on reading it, gain some insights into my view of life, and of course some enjoyment from its contents.
About the Author
My name is Marion Rose Horgan. I am married to a very patient husband and we have three children. I have lived most of my life in a little town called Ballynoe, just outside the town of Cobh, on the southwestern coast of Ireland. For over twenty years now, I have taught French and German at secondary level, ages 13 to 18. This is an occupation which I enjoy very much (most of the time!) and find both challenging and fulfilling.
In recent years, I have been visited by a very creative muse, and began to write songs, poems and prose, all of which are directly related to the personal experiences I have had so far. In the summer of 2003, I decided to put them all together in a book, which, I feel, reveals much about my personal journey. To quote a well respected Irish film director, Jim Sheridan, quoting the much admired Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh, in a recent interview in Life magazine: "the more personal you get, the deeper you go inside yourself, and the more people you touch" I hope this proves to be true in the case of this book, which I have called My Road.
