About the Author

Dr. Marcia Whiting is President and CEO of Coastal Counseling Clinic, where she is a psychotherapist. Marcia started her work on the mental game of golf in the 1970's, while completing her Masters and PhD at the University of Michigan. Determination, Visualization, Implementation of DVI, The Key to Better Golf was a tape put together at WIBM radio station, with radio manager, Wayne Blackmon. It was marketed nationally in 1983.

She has worked with golf professionals on the mental aspects of their golf games since the 1980's. Marcia has conducted seminars on the mental aspects of competition for Golfers, Tae Kwando and Triathlon competitors in the cities across the country.

In May of 2001, she began a weekly golf article called Get Birdies, for the newspaper The State Port Pilot. Both golfers and those who do not play golf enjoy reading these articles. She has been repeatedly asked for the articles in book form. This book is the results of their enthusiasm and encouragement.

Before returning to complete her education, Marcia was an artist doing children's portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and still life paintings. The mediums used were watercolor, oil, pastels, acrylic and silver point. Other creative endeavors included interior design, landscape architecture, and dress design.

At the university, interest in different thought processes lead to research using astronauts, aerospace engineers, artists and authors as subjects. A questionnaire was developed that would predict an innovative generalist or a detailed specifist. It would indicate whether the artist would produce impressionist soft-edged rather than hard-edged, geometric, architectural renderings. For writers it would predict writing poetry and novels versus textbooks.

Presently, she is writing her book about Celiac Disease. The book indicates hidden sources of gluten for those unable to digest wheat. Included are recipes that she has developed over 37 years since her diagnosis of having Celiac Disease. Her substitutions for wheat allow a person with the disease to enjoy a wide range of gluten free homemade food.
