About the Book

'Brussels'...'The EEC'...'Europe'...'The EU'...

It's been called many things over the years - some less than panegyrical!

It has engendered anger, loathing and suspicion.

It is fiercely derided, warmly congratulated and utterly despised.

In truth, it is an enigma to most people; a curious monolithic mass that has been with us for over fifty years and looks like being around for some time to come. We appear to be stuck with it!

But stuck with what? What is this obscure structure that has developed into what we know today as the European Union - or the EU?

How does it work? How does it affect our lives? Is it a cause for concern?

That's why Simply... The EU - A Guide for the Bewildered exists - to answer these and other frequently raised questions.

Written in plain English - without the jargon - Simply... The EU is the essential guide through the myths and mysteries of the European Union.

Charting progress from its beginnings in 1951 as the European Coal and Steel Community to today's modern European Union of 25 countries, Simply... The EU eases you gently through the maze and tells you:

  • How and why the EU was established
  • What the various EU institutions mean
  • How they function and affect our lives
  • How EU laws are enacted
  • How citizens can influence EU decisions
  • What is really in the EU Constitution

and a great deal more besides...

Simply... The EU removes the mystique that frequently plagues much of the available information on the European Union and helps you understand its true meaning - and why we should all take a healthy interest in its future development.

Turn EU myth into EU fact with the only guide you will ever need - Simply... The EU - A Guide for the Bewildered.
