About the Book
This book has been specifically written to be an encouragement to those diagnosed with diabetes mellitus at an early age (type 1). It is also written for parents, family and friends of those diagnosed with such a chronic illness. The diabetic needs others to help him cope with such a disease that cannot be cured but can be controlled. The control of the disease and motivation to lead a healthy life comes from spiritual belief and love of those around us. I have lived with diabetes for over fifty years. I have learned to control the disease and not let it control me. I would like to help others be challenged to do the same.
About the Author
Dorothy was born in a small town in Missouri in 1946. However, most of her life has been lived in Arkansas. She had a normal childhood as the second child of a Baptist preacher. At the age of seven, she was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus - a chronic, incurable but controllable disease. This changed her life.
In the early seventies, the author graduated from a state university with a Master's degree. She immediately started teaching in public schools. She taught in high school classes for thirty years. Dorothy loved teaching as much the last days as she did the first.
The author married, adopted two children, divorced and continued to lead a fairly normal life except for diabetes - which carries with it a fair share of complications. This book has been written to show how one can make it over the hurdles of a chronic disease.
