About the Book

Imagine a world so cruel, so wicked, so avaricious, so intolerant that Christmas time, both present and future, is jeopardised. This is the subject of The Spirit of Christmas. Facing his own demise and unimaginable horrors for humankind, Santa Claus enlists the support of a splendid array of original characters in a desperate struggle against evil.

Dramatic, warm, humorous and richly visual, The Spirit of Christmas unfolds in easy-flowing verse, which sweeps the action along at a pace. It is a must not only for lovers of fantasy, but also for all those who fervently hope for a better, kinder world.

About the Author

Born in 1947 in the South Yorkshire industrial town of Doncaster, Roger Beswick was the fourth of seven children. His father being a railway worker and his mother a housewife, he had a typical post-war, working-class upbringing: money was scarce, but he was afforded plenty of time and an excellent environment for the exercise of body, spirit and imagination.

Leaving grammar school in 1963 at the age of sixteen, he subsequently resumed his full-time education in 1966 and qualified as a graduate teacher of English in 1970. Currently he is the Headteacher of a state comprehensive school. His interests include natural history, listening to classical music, and, of course, reading and writing.

He has been happily married to Sandra for 35 years and has two sons and three grandchildren.
