About the Book

Often our past unknowingly affects our present. Every action has a corresponding belief. In this book, we identify buried life experiences that reveal the present harmful actions and attitudes we have about ourselves and others. Self-hatred, rejection, concealed rage, bitterness, and a critical spirit are some of the subjects covered. What we believe about ourselves becomes the motive for why we act the way we do. We become what we think about. Negative secret dialogues produce hidden time bombs in relationships.

Our perceptions are formed from our past experiences. What we believe doesn't affect what is, but it does affect our actions. When we believe something that isn't true, it is deception. Deception blocks truth from being assimilated. When we are deceived, we don't recognize our own deception.

Not every thought we have is ours. Many thoughts are implanted in our minds by the enemy of our souls. Satan is the father of lies. He can't tell the truth. If he can plant a lie in our mind, and we believe it and act on it, the lie will control our lives. God cannot lie; therefore, His Word is the truth that will set us free. John 8:32 says, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is the truth that we apply to our lives that brings lasting change.

Persistent destructive habits or addictions imprison our hearts. Jesus came to set the captives free. Through His death on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sins in full. When we accept God's gift of eternal life, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. It is the Holy Spirit who guides us into the life changing truth that will break the chains of darkness, and set us free from our inner prison of wrong beliefs.

About the Author

Marilyn Adams was born in Sacramento, California. She has been speaking in and out of the country since 1987. Her years of counseling and teaching have fueled her passion to see people set free from the prisons of their past. Marilyn has participated in many short term mission trips. She has also led her own teams and spoken in many church settings. One of her favorite adventures was when she lived in Quito, Ecuador for 3 months. Her days were filled with excitement as she spent time praying for various ones, and experienced first hand God setting them free from past bondages.

She fell head first into a six-foot ravine in 1977. The resulting injuries caused her to be bedridden and unable to work for six-and-a-half years. During that time, God initiated an intimate relationship with him which continues to grow deeper day by day. The insights and understanding Marilyn has gained from this relationship are the root source of her strength and endurance. The fruit of her relationship with the Lord is a source of encouragement for others. What she learns, she passes on.

Marilyn systematically reads her Bible daily, and writes down the things God tells her. Her first book was created from her journals and subsequent teachings. She knows that the truth in God's Word is essential for spiritual health and strength. As she continually applies God's truths to her own life, the lies of her past are exposed, and broken. She uses her freedom, from the strongholds that once ruled her life, as examples for others to know that they too can be set free.

Marilyn enjoys gardening, reading, writing, rubber stamp art, and quality time with friends. She uses those things as a means to give away what God has so richly given to her.
