About the Book

The east dialect version of Children’s Songs was first written in 1987 at the Secwepemc Cultural Education Society. The songs were recorded by: Ethel Billy - Adams Lake Band Bridget Dan - Alkali Lake Band Ann Michel - Adams Lake Band The illustrations are those of Kamloops Band artist Dave Seymour. This west dialect version, Set.setsíntns re Stsmémelt, was written at the Secwepemc Cultural Education Society by Mona Jules, March 2005. Colour for the illustrations was provided by Lizzy Ignace, Skeetchestn Indian Band / Secwepemc Nation. This edition was published in collaboration with the First Peoples’ Cultural Foundation and Trafford Publishing. About the Author

Hiłmas was born and raised in Alert Bay, BC where he currently resides. Hiłamas is the Director of the Gwa’wina Dance Performers, a composer of traditional Potlatch ceremony songs and an initiate of the Hamat̕sa Society. He teaches song and dance in the community and he is a student of kwak̕wala language learning. Presently he is an cultural intern at the U’mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay. Hiłmas is immersing himself in the traditional ways of his ancestors.
