About the Book

This book was written by Dr. O' who has multiple disabilities, but shows in this book how she has overcome so many obstacles and even grew stronger through her perseverance. She designed this book, not only to be enjoyable to read, but also to motivate people to chase that impossible dream. Some people think an obstacle cannot be overcome—others don't know it can't be done—so they don't give up trying, and they overcome it.

Dr. O' started playing golf in 1998 and now is the number one blind female golfer in the world. She tells her story of how she went from being totally lost after her accident, to knowing there is a rainbow out there for all of us. Dr. O' also goes into her Native background, and how she was adopted by a white family, and after fifty years is brought back to her people and has grown so much since then. She now calls the Six Nations home, and is learning the old ways of her people.

We know you will enjoy this book and even grow by reading it. One person who started reading it decided to go back to college and finish his Bachelor's Degree. A wonderful lady who read the book went back to finish her Doctorate's because of the excitement she received from the book. Both said if someone like this can enjoy life and grow then so can I. This is a book you will want to read more than once, said Bedge, and each time you will gain even more from it.

About the Author

Dr. Angela L. O'Rourke was born July 23rd, 1950, in Southern California. She now resides in Arizona, at the Six Nations area in Ontario, Canada, and anywhere else the spirit may move her. Her native name when she was born was Gentle Breeze.

Angela holds two Doctorial Degrees EdD in Education and a PhD in Counseling, and is Retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, where she was a Director of a Special Intelligence Group, responsible for four elements, which entailed traveling all around the world. Her responsibilities included work overseas, as well as at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., along with being involved in the Gulf War. She worked with and for both military and civilian agencies. At the same time, she was completing work toward a PhD in Psychology, when she was blinded as the result of a car accident in 1992, and was forced to spend several years in the hospital. Angela completed her two doctorates after she had completely lost her sight. She has instrumental in starting the American Blind and Disabled Golf Association, and also was founder of the Angel's Blind Golf Foundation, which helps blind and sight-impaired people around the world learn to use golf as a tool in improving the quality of their lives.

A Master in Tae Kwon Do (6th degree black belt), Angela had often trained blindfolded, never knowing she was going to lose her sight. Before her blindness, she had demonstrated her skill in the martial arts all over the world. It was only after her blindness forced her to learn to trust others completely that Angela says, she "started really living."

Her continued training in martial arts helped in her recovery, and in 1998, she also began playing golf. In 1999 and 2000, Angela ranked among the top ten blind golfers in the United States and Canada. She is the number one blind female golfer in the world, and she was the first blind person, male or female, to be invited to play on a sighted Pro golf tour. In 2002, Angela became one of the Blind Golf Champions in both the United States and Canada.

Although Angela was adopted, she is proud to claim Native American heritage. Her biological mother was Mohawk, from the Wolf Clan, and her biological father was Cayuga, from the Turtle Clan, both having been born on Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada.

Angela's husband, Bob, has family at the Wahgoshig Reserve, and the two of them live at Six Nations Reserve, both of which are located in Canada. They are the proud grandparents of three young Native men who live on the Wahgoshig Reserve, in Northern Ontario, and three grandkids who live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. They also have three daughters and a son, as well as one granddaughter and grandson who live in the United States, totaling eight wonderful grandchildren.

Proceeds from the books that she publishes, and from a column she writes in the Teka newspaper will be distributed among the Angel's Blind Golf Foundation, which sponsors blind golf tournaments in Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Ontario, Canada to show the world that disabled people can do great things; Southeastern Guide Dogs Schools, which helps raise the quality of life for blind people; and the Six Nations writing group, which looks to help and support people of all ages.

Angela's dream is to help others see that life is awesome and worth being part of; to encourage others in trying to raise their quality of life; and to let the world know that every human being is a worthwhile person. She believes that respect and honor are an important part of the foundation which helps build a future for all of us, and as a Native, she wants other Natives to realize that they can succeed and be proud of being Native while sharing their heritage with other people.

May a Gentle Breeze be with you.
