About the Book

Cam McClure and Charlie Anderson are nineteen year old soldiers in the Stoneax Infantry Division which is ordered to Europe in the summer of 1944. During a layover in New York they receive a three-day pass. They meet and fall in love with two Midwestern cousins who are visiting their aunt in Brooklyn. The men ship out, there's an accident at sea, the ship returns to New York, and they are given three more days of leave during which time they propose marriage to their respective girlfriends. The men's friendship is strengthened by the prospect of their being relatives by marriage. They depart again for Europe where they participate in some fierce battles on the frozen battlefields of Belgium and Germany. Their bond of friendship becomes even stronger as they face hazards, hardships, and challenges together. Their common goal is to protect one another. Their families and girlfriends suffer the emotional strain of knowing their loved ones are in imminent danger of serious injury or death. Unusual, thrilling, joyful, but also tragic, events occur from the first meeting of the guys and gals until the end of the war.
