About the Author
Dr. Bishop E. Carter III is an advocate and professional promoting social justice, prevention, and discipline through education and empowerment. He has served as a Chief Chaplain and Case Manager (CTO) for the KY Department of Corrections for 17 1/2 years, & KY Juvenile Justice for 2 years. He is a contracted professional stabilizing life skills as a contracted Alternative Counselor for Toyota Motor Manufacturer for the past 8 years. He has served as the pastor of the Bethsaida Baptist church, Lexington, KY for the past 21 years.
He serves on the adjunct faculty of the Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY and the Lexington Theological Seminary, Lexington, KY. Currently, Dr. Carter teaches at the Simmons Bible College, Louisville (extension school) and serves on the faculty of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Congress, Washington, DC. Dr. Bishop Carter served as the "Faith Based Program Coordinator" for the Department of Juvenile Justice, promoting a Faith Community Network in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Bishop Carter is a Graduate of: the University of Kentucky receiving: an Associate Degree in Business (5/74); a Bachelors of Arts in Social Work (12/76); the Lexington Baptist College receiving a Bachelors and Masters in Religious Education ('81 & '82); the Lexington Theological Seminary receiving a Masters in Divinity ('95); and received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from the United Theological Seminary Dayton, OH, 5/2000. Dr. Carter is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (11/73), and holds local, district, and national offices including serving as Basileus for 3 terms for Psi Tau.
Dr. Carter has held offices and served on many civic, educational, community, religious boards, committees, and organizations such as: Progressive National Baptist Congress, the Executive Board of the Consolidated District Association of Kentucky Baptist, the National Congress of Black Churches, NAACP, the Board of the Lexington Urban League, 4-H Extension, Omega Psi Phi, Junior Pro Basket ball League, and Fayette County Schools Task Force on Excellence, and the Lexington Fayette Urban League. He has received numerous awards including: "two Outstanding Alumnus Awards" from the University of Kentucky 11/99 & 5/2001. Bishop E. Carter III is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. Rev. Carter is married to the former Brenda Johnson of Danville, KY, and they have 3 children: Bishop IV, BJ, and Brenda II. Bishop IV & BJ are both Omegas.
