About the Book
Tori's baby sitter is her grandmother. Tori speaks no Japanese. Her grandmother speaks no English. How will they learn to communicate? Love and culture will show the way.
Tori wants very much to communicate with her grandmother whom she loves. Tori asks her mother for her help. Her mother explains she had had a similar problem and suggests Tori shadow her grandmother and do what she does. Of course, when all else fails, smile a lot.
By shadowing her grandmother, Tori learns about many Japanese crafts and customs. She also learns the value of showing love through her actions rather than depending on words.
About the Author
Stormy has been a teacher on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, teaching students of many ethnicities and from many different cultural backgrounds. Kauai is a beautiful melting pot of diversity. It is a great place to teach tolerance and respect for all cultures. It is not surprising that she has been a member of Friendship Force for over 20 years. It is a cultural exchange program for adults and families. She has hosted people from all over the world in her home including Japan, Russia, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Chile, and Brazil. When teaching in the classroom, she loves to teach about other cultures through crafts, foods, costumes and customs of the various countries.
