About the Book

Little Boy Blue takes us on the author's own personal rollercoaster ride through boyhood to adolescence. When you are a 7-year-old boy growing up in the slums of Birmingham at the end of the 1950's, life is hard. When your father dies it gets harder again!

The grim reality and the poverty of the inner city slums provide the backdrop for a story that encompasses the whole range of human emotions as seen throiugh the eyes of a boy whom the Social Services, Psychiatrists and Probation Officers would come to describe as "A socially retarded delinquent of well above average intelligence!"

Fighting for the affections of an often distant mother is a futile struggle that the young David is never going to win and never going to give up on, however, his inability to stay on the straight and narrow inevitably puts him on a collision course with the punitive justice system of the day, leading to his eventual committal to Approved School when just 11 years of age.

David's early adventures are overflowing with a variety of unforgettably wonderful and occasionally even terrifying characters. For all the harshness, and there's a lot to endure, his story is filled with an irrepresible humour. The story is brought to life with colourfully drawn peiple and crazy situations that only true life really throws up.

From the lows of rejection, the brutality of over exuberant corporal punishment and bullying at school to the highs of the excitement of the chase, this clever, unruly, cocky little boy manages to display a never-say-die attitude throughout.
