About the Book
"He wants us to fear him."
Castasia is a long way from Nerona. Pursued by Torpani troops, condemned traitor Lucius Aurelius must reach his birthplace alive if he hopes to save his eight-year-old daughter from descending madness. Accompanied by his loyal aide, he takes the child north in the wake of a fatal disaster. For Marcus Flavius, the pace is slow and tests his patience. Aurelia, motherless and forced to leave her only brother behind, must now rely on her father for protection in a world outside her experience. And for Lucius, returning home means far more than teaching Aurelia to use the power she has inherited from him. He is returning to a place-and people-abandoned almost twenty years earlier. While forgiveness may await, he must first prepare to face the ones whom he betrayed, and to confront once more the adversary that drove him as a boy to become the Golden Savage.
Returning home can be as dangerous as leaving it...
