About the Author
Prof. Bethwell A. Ogot, born in Western Kenya in 1929, has spent all his adult life teaching, writing and educating. He has taught African history at Makerere University in Uganda, and the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University and Maseno University in Kenya. In addition he was on the UNESCO commission that was charged with writing the history of Africa, and was president of the UNESCO General Assembly. Prof. Ogot has served on numerous local and international organizations and commissions including serving as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly.
