About the Author

Patricia was born on the lovely island of Trinidad in the West Indies. Like her countryman V.S. Naipaul, she received her elementary education under the constraints of British colonization. She left the island in 1963, after it gained independence from England. the trend then was for the newly emancipated to journey to the motherland for further education. Patricia did that, and made several trips to Europe, under the aegis of the British Students Council, while studying for a diploma in Nursing.

On completion of her studies, she worked as a midwife in London. From there, she was recruited to work in Toronto. She spent three years there, then, fled from the frigid winters to New York, where she got married and pursued further education. Patricia did receive a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Pace University, and a Master's degree in Education from Hofstra University.

She describes her poetry as a way of recording her varied experiences, as she evolved through her developmental stages.
