About the Book

This charming tale transports young children to the fictional feline world of Pumpkintown, a wonderful place where every individual is unique, accepted by the other cats, and told by the town's wise Mayor Sonny that they are very special. Through the "tails" of its many endearing characters, this delightful story teaches preschool and young school-aged children that they too are special and should also accept others, even if they are different.

Written by first-time author Charlotte Lisi, and brought to life visually by professional illustrator David Ortega, the story is based on the author's real life cats and their enchanting antics. This book is certainly an excellent addition to any child's library, and also a great gift. Children will be captivated by the engaging topic and illustrations, while learning about self-confidence and acceptance of others.

About the Author

Charlotte Lisi, born and raised in Long Island, began her career as a model before becoming a successful interior designer and importer of fine goods. Additionally, Charlotte developed a professional relationship with Appalachian artists who crafted the handmade children's items that she personally designed. Eventually, Charlotte opened her own gift store, specializing in imported china and crystal as well as children's toys and books. She ran this business successfully until 1999.

The idea of I am Special came from the many cats she has rescued over the years. She was moved by the unique personalities and special attributes of each cat. Charlotte says, "The way that the cats get along with each other, accept each other, and learn to live together both impress and inspire me."

Charlotte Lisi continues to live in the big white house in Pumpkintown, rescuing undomesticated cats. A portion of the book sale proceeds will go to support this effort.
