About the Author
Bigken or Big Kennedy Mathias is an East African born poet from Birmingham West Midlands, whose reputation has been built by his passion for modern poetry and his modeling pursuit.
Known for being outstandingly remarkable as a poet,a philosopher,a writer, and a role model for many people, Bigken's inspiration has been built from his education and his personal experiences gained from a life style that you wouldn't even imagine how he became a positive product out of it.
As a youngster, born twins in Dar-es -salaam,Tanzania,Bigken lost his dad in a car accident at the age of 6 or 7 years old and was left with mum, Mrs Adelaide Lukaija and his twin brother, Lil' ken or as he prefers it, Kenneth Kato which means Kenneth Little.
After his dad's tragic death, he started seeing life in a different way and this experience even at his young age, kept Bigken wishing to make a difference. However, his wish was never easy,it kept him getting in trouble and always in fall outs with whoever was close to him even his mum and his twin. Since fights were all he ever faced due to his unusual but unique personality, Bigken encountered enough failures and very little success that made him choose to find a different but rather positive way of dealing with people, understanding them and making them understand him, so he could break out of his own failures.
By the age of 12 years old, Bigken started writing personal articles that would encourage him not to give up but to keep going. As lonely and sleepless while getting used to his unknown and unexpected fate, he became fearless of change and this time, he realized he was different from everybody else for a cause. And that's when it didn't bother him anymore about the number of fights he had to go through but the period of time it took him to shine through.
By the age of 14 years old, Fashion was Bigken's only confidence on himself and this made him get even more friends. Each penny he had, he saved it for a designer gear and always wanted to be photographed. These happy moments that enabled Bigken to break-through to the community with confidence came with a change of his personal written articles into lyrics inspired by the legend of Rap music,Tupac Shakur. Bigken started rapping and writing songs and going to underground studios for recording but gave up due to his pursuit of his education.
By the age of 17 years old, he became the legend of rhymes himself and discovered his talent in poetry while in high school where he was taking a literature class. His poetry gained enough recognition in only few months after he started and was welcomed in many high school events to recite his poems. A peace poem that he wrote for only 10 minutes, made him recognized through out East Africa after it was featured in United Nations News later for East Africa. Bigken then got a job as a poetry writer for "The African newspaper" and was offered by the editor to become an assistant editor of the newspaper but he declined it since he was going overseas to further education. He did however agreed to appear on East African "ITV Channel" for several youth talks where he made quite an impression.
By the age of 18 to 21 years old, while he was doing his business and law studies in the UK, Bigken had already finished writing his first book which he started in High school called Mark My Words,Bigken! which became too personal but changed it soon after and wrote a second version. However, he thought, his audience needed more excitement in the book, so he wrote the third version which is now out for you to have.
Bigken is now 23 years old and has already got three more books that are ready for publication with one coming after "Mark My Words,Bigken" called "Roses and Wisdom".
His ideas are Big. His poetry is revolutionary. His words are true. And his philosophy is remarkable. He is one poet with a real power of positivity and power of combining both fantasy and reality into one book and still make his audience get the message.
