Gary Hagins roamed from church to church trying to find God amidst many doubts. It was in the seventh year of his search that he met a diminutive charmer, JoAnne, who took his hand and led him to the tabernacle. Gary was born in Wyoming and raised by the wind, but Eva Mae Humphreys was soon to learn that he was more than a handful. Eva Mae called Gary, "the Cowboy"; for thirty-five years she controlled the reins and directed him with grace, if not ease.

Until Eva's tutelage, Gary was impatient, impetuous, temperamental, vain and calculating. Eva Mae was a saint: tough, funny insightful, calming, loving... kind and gentle were her ways. In the end, Eva Mae won over "the Cowboy" and he became her disciple.
