About the Book

This is a memoir detailing the author’s rise from poverty and despair in New York’s famed Spanish Harlem to a life filled with cherished moments in time, people and places. Along the way, the author meets many fascinating people, both famous and some not-famous. Some are helpful to this young Latino male seeking wisdom and experience; others are outright manipulative and self-serving. Some remarkable family members are described and each of the their contributions to the author’s development is also detailed. The author does not miss recent important milestones in history including the events of 9/11 and its tragic effects on his family. From a socio-cultural perspective, the triumphs and challenges a Puerto Rican continues to face in today’s society are well detailed in this book and serves to provide a quasi-anthropological study into human behavior. While the subject of meeting famous people is a major theme in this book, the response by the author is what makes its reading compelling and intriguing.
