About the Book
A collection of football notes, quotes, cliches, and anecdotes, from a wide variety of sources. Be warned, some of the quotes may shock you, but that is the way football is - there is no hiding place in the football world, and players and managers often express their views in a very frank way.
Sometimes at a football game the most memorable thing is a quote from a fellow fan. Mr. Unknown is quoted throughout this treasure trove of quotes. Often times he can sum up in a one liner what it would take a professional 1,000 words to say. Some times when you talk less, you say more.
The author also acknowledges the Pub Philosopher - there is one in every pub across the country. After the game discussing the performance over a few pints, the philospher is as good as any radio or TV pundit. Everyone has an opinion. Although admittedly there is not the same pressure as the professional who has a microphone stuck in his face immediately a game is finished and the adrenalin is still pumping. A recipe for a banana skin, being tongue tied, and saying something, then wishing they hadn't. But it is too late. Modern technology whizzes the best comments around the world in a nano second. There is definetly a skill in saying the Right Words at the Right Time.
This collection is intended for fun and amusement only. This little collection is dedicated to all football nuts.
Some of the authors favourites include::
Number 797 from Tibor Nyilasi captain of the famous Hungarian team "A footballer is someone who can make his feet obey his head".
Number 799 from Pele, the worlds greatest player, "I go much faster without thinking, than those who run".
Number 805 "There was a high pitched whining tone coming from my television when I was watching the FA Cup Final. I phoned the TV engineer to complain, but he told me it was just Alan Hansen talking out of his arse."
Number 986 : The story of the fan who wants to show his wife what happens to a man who gives up beer, football and sex...

Born and raised in Glasgow, he has always loved football. Even at an early age, he was setting "goals" in his mind, although he didn't realise that was what he was doing at that time! Represented Scotland at football at schoolboy level. Played his first professional football game with Clyde at Hampden Park, the national stadium, on New Years Day and scored a goal from 25 yards with his first kick of the ball (this may sound like a Roy of the Rovers story but it happened!). Spent about 5 years in football, made all sort of excuses and left.
Trained in the UK and the USA, and is a graduate from the International Sports Medicine Institute at Lilleshall. Worked for many years as a Sports Therapist with local semi professional team. Enjoys all the nonsense that goes with being part of a football club, especially the stories from the dressing room.
Worked in Sarajevo after the Bosnian War, and remembers all the kids playing football on the local park using tank shells as goalposts! Was inspired after speaking to a Bosnian Government minister who wanted to recreate the country's image through Sport and Football. This was when he first understood the true influence football can have on a country.
Loves nothing better that watching a good football match, has admiration for every player who puts on a pair of football boots and steps on a football pitch, and likes to see players who have had difficult times in their careers persevere and become successful.
