About the Book

A series of eighteen tales inspired by the pure Haitian oral tradition is supplemented by a selection of the most used proverbs by the Haitian people. Protagonists as picturesque as malignant in confrontation with mischievous spirits combine their talents with the benevolence of the elves that intervene to reveal the phantasmagoric side of an existence sometimes dull.

The Men of the Lost Mountains is situated between reality and legend, characteristic so close to the Haitian mentality is registered without complexes in an original and pathetic culture.

Negodjenn, the narrator of the second tale is a griot which fascinates and fills with wonder by its eloquence and its mischievousness… One lived with the idea that he traveled through parallel universes…

He knew when it was necessary to accentuate in order to evaluate our bravery. He laughed little or not at all. whether his tales were frightening or comical, the more it kept its seriousness which was surprising, sometimes.

At that precise moment, the youngest out of a dream, begged that a last history be told. A long time ago, he followed the tales in a dream, mixing reality with the dream, making the symbiosis of two parallel worlds. This griot of Negodjenn lived, but persists in the memories. He could be the characters of all of its histories which have a common point in spite of the divergence of characters: the force to defeat with or without the assistance of the geniuses.

A choice of the most used proverbs drawn from the Haitian oral traditions supplement the enchantment of the tales.
