About the Book
David McAllister, a wealthy and gentrified member of the English aristocracy is also a crusading criminal defense lawyer with a sterling reputation, unlike his reported girl friend Leah Hammond.
One day David receives bad news from his American relatives. His beloved Alicia, a favorite niece, has been murdered in New York City. Alicia's brother, David's nephew, is a NYPD detective but even with all of his resources there is no chance to convict the crafty Russian, who is quite adept at covering his tracks. David vows vengeance. He goes to New York and finds Luchensko in an attempt to nail him.
But the Russian is slippery, and to compound matters David McAllister is reported missing in a skiing accident near his villa in Switzerland.
Leah Hammond goes back to New York and again takes up the pursuit of Victor. An attempt to trap him transporting Stinger missiles to Cuba fails and Victor gets away. Leah picks up the Russian's trail in England and through some deductive reasoning figures that Victor is going to smuggle the bomb into the US. Leah had decided to get Victor Luchensko even if it meant killing him in cold blood, but during the adventure she learns something about herself. Rather, she traps him with a combination of female wiles and super intelligence and in the end Victor gets his.
About the Author
Born on beautiful Manitoulin Island, Merdick Earl McFarlane is a true "Haweater". He greatly enjoys the lifestyle and beauty of the Island. Although born on Manitoulin Island, Merdick spent most of his early years being raised and schooled in Wawa, Ontario. When asked he fondly calls both places home. Merdick attributes his love of reading and writing to schoolteachers in Wawa. He fondly recalls how some teachers attempted to "tame his wild side", by taking a keen interest in his education and encouraging his desire to read all the book he could get his hands on. Merdick graduated Grade 12 from Michipicoten High School in 1975. He remained in Wawa for a brief period of time after high school to work in a mine with the dynamite crew.
Returning to Manitoulin Island, he married and is the father of one daughter. As an extremely hard working carpenter and block layer, he received certification as a licensed carpenter. This eventually led to Merdick working for a number of years as a Professor for a community college in the field of carpentry. Merdick Earl McFarlane still resides on beautiful Manitoulin Island, operates his own business and enjoys life with his wife Valerie, stepson Peter, daughter Michelle Lynn and grandson Brett John Michael.
