About the Book
Picture the scene. A young woman, suddenly an orphan in the eleventh century, besieged by a land greedy neighbour and struggling with grief for the loss of her father, Catherine's life is turned inside out when she discovers her magical inheritance. Thrown into a world of sorcery and danger Catherine must quickly come to terms with her loss and her new destiny.
An ancient order of monks send an emissary to warn her that a powerful warlock is hunting her down, seeking a talisman she unknowingly harbours. Fragile and vulnerable, Catherine allows herself to be seduced by a dark, exotic stranger, desperately trying to fill a gaping void in her soul.
Surrounded by an increasing body count, with a secret that could see her burned at the stake and preparing for a battle she has little chance of winning, learning who to trust becomes vital.
About the Author
King's Shadow, taking rural life as one of its themes, has a strong resonance with Somerset born Dayna, who has diligently pursued her dream of seeing King's Shadow in print, from conception to completion, working tirelessly towards her goal.
Dayna has a strong literary pedigree, with numerous short stories, children's stories and magazine articles within her portfolio. However, it is the fusion of her keen historical interest and attention to emotional detail that serve as the bedrock of King's Shadow. She clearly draws on her experience as a psychology student to develop the central characters with clarity.
Over the years Dayna has developed an eclectic set of interests, resulting in the careful blend of fact and fiction that you see in King's Shadow. It is perhaps a reflection of the struggle for balance in Dayna's interests that sets the scene for this battle of good versus evil.
