About the Book

This is the true story of personal triumph that is also Poland's history. The resistance fighters who died, the Polish soldiers who fought on all fronts...I try to honor in my simple way.

About the Author

My happy young life in Poland was shattered by Hitler's invasion of Poland. Then the Russian invasion came. Extreme difficulties ensued for millions with families destroyed or broken apart. Seeing the horror of war, the concentration camps at the end of the ward is indescribable. Americans organized displaced person camps and new countries for refugees to go to. Coming to america on Liberty Ships, the adventure of a cross country trip on a train; serving in the american Army during the korean War was difficult but satisfying. Enjoying family life in america helped me leave behind the tragedy of war.

Jean and Paul have been together for 47 years. They have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. They still live on the same small ranch they built together (working on it for 44 years). After years as an orthotist-prosthetist, Paul changed professions and still does leather-work for horse owners.
