About the Book
Just as the human body has several systems that work in harmony with one another, public education, has several systems that must work together to function properly. If any one system is not functioning properly, the whole entity is dysfunctional. How long can the human body exist with a dysfunctional circulatory system or digestive system? The other systems of the body will try to compensate, or likely overcompensate, in an attempt to prolong survival. Eventually, systems will begin to fail as they become over-burdened. Only when the dysfunctional system is addressed at its core, will the ailment be addressed. All organizations with sub-systems, including public education, can be compared to the human body. An educational system is comprised of several parts that must work well together, within their respective intended purposes to be successful. This book identifies the different sub-systems of public education, explores the intended purposes of those sub-systems, compares a functional educational system with that of a dysfunctional one, and offers a method of creating solutions.
About the Author
N. Eric Carter comes from a family of educators. Personal ownership of the education process has made a huge difference in the life of his parents. Acquiring a quality education created opportunities for his parents and consequently, became a family mainstay for my brother and me. Expectations from his parents for academic achievement were always held high. Going to college was never a question. Instead, the question was, "Which college would he attend?" Scholarships to pay for college were not hoped for, but planned for and earned. N. Eric Carter graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree (Secondary Education - Social Studies) in 1996. He began his career as an educator later that year as a high school social studies teacher. He was recognized as a STAR Teacher by his peers and students his first two years of teaching because of the learning (not necessarily the teaching) that took place in his classes. He graduated with a Master's in Arts Degree in Educational Administration in 1999. In 2000, he began his administration career as an assistant principal at a middle school. Because he believes in being a lifetime learner, earning an Educational Doctorate is his next academic goal. The desire to see people improve continues to be a passion and driving force in his life.
