About the Book

Rufus - the title of this book - IN REALITY - was my father's real name - Rufus, just as ornery and mean as Rufus in the book - when I started writing this book, Rufus just exploded from my mind - what made some people of that day so cruel and inhuman to their own offspring - Jake Scanlon, a victim of this cruelty, ran off from home in Pecos, Texas at age 14 - that was just the beginning of HELL ON EARTH - others turned Jake into a murderous heathen - self preservation against the world around him - Jake learned how to steal cattle and rob banks and get away with it - Jake turned as cunning as a fox stealing chickens from the henhouse - when all he really wanted to be was the servant of God, his Good Maker.

About the Author

Homer Wright, the author of this book, was actually born at Pecos, Texas and grew up in the 1930 depression years at Pecos, Texas. In those years, our government actually killed cattle, poured kerosene on their carcasses to keep starving people from retrieving the meat - our governments only excuse - to drive up the price of cattle - soon after - World War II - in the U.S. Army, the author was transported to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) and assigned to Army Pictorial Service (APS) in Italy to cover and serve the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) - whereby war crimes trials were being conducted and hangings of war criminals - our chore was to create a photographic history of these events - I spent my 17th and 18th birthdays at that chore - mans inhumanity to mankind - God save the world from such evil inhumanities - WHEN - all we want to be is a servant of God, our Good Maker.
