About the Book
This book dares to debunk a commonly held myth in America today: The 'Backwards-Arkansas' myth. The author recognized this as such - as a small child, not knowing then that the course of her life would eventually have everything to do with rebelling against it - in a big way.
This true personal journey leads to surprising highs and astonishing lows, in a state where people are expected to 'just live with' this huge lie that is perpetuated about them at all times. These extreme highs and lows, are the exact reasons - that this story has long been suppressed and will now also be fervently challenged by some. Albeit, everything in this book is based on fact and real experiences.
Here, DJ Westlake expounds upon both profound and trivial aspects of American popular culture, in order to expose truths that touch upon the lives of all Americans in our present day society. This book is a must read for anyone that wishes to truly be informed in the modern world - instead of living in a state of denial about many things that are actually going on around them - in real time. Yes, it is deep and wide and certainly not as simple as some would have you believe.
About the Author
DJ Westlake is a designer/artist, former public school teacher and single parent. She has an 'Accumula-Doctorate,' as called by one superintendent - consisting of three under graduate degrees in the arts, all obtained at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
She now substitute-teaches part time, and sells paintings and jewelry. She took on writing, only by feeling an urgency to get this story out. This is her first book.
