About the Author

My name, real or otherwise is D.B. Hurst and I am in my early sixties. I am happily married with two adult daughters, who have between them endowed us with six wonderful grandchildren. My wife Alice and I have been married for more than forty years and we live in Chichester. I joined the Royal Navy as a fifteen year old and enjoyed a successful career, until a road accident in 1964 left me disabled and no longer fit to complete my term in the service. With some of the compensation that I received, we bought a small grocery shop for Alice and I to run together. We were forced to give up this enterprise after a fire and circumstances caused me to begin a career as in insurance man. From the travel and experience gained in both of my careers and many moments of sadness, comedy, fun and laughter too, I have written this tale and have taken much pleasure from doing it. I have included something from both careers in the story and hope that it is going to give pleasure to many.
