About the Book
Sexual Abuse Group Treatment: A Heroine's Journey is a comprehensive resource for psychotherapists. Using the structure of mythic heroic journeys, the therapists and group members are guided through the stages of trauma treatment. Even very novice therapists and group leaders will be able to provide a quality group experience using this detailed guide. The book contains a complete curriculum, a companion writing journal, and detailed therapist guidelines for leading successful groups. There are intake guidelines, useful paperwork samples, and a goal progress checklist.
The curriculum covers all aspects of treatment from sexual abuse and trauma, in a structured and organized manner. Each section offers a variety of treatment sessions from which a therapist may choose, including presentations, discussions, art projects, role plays and writing exercises. Group materials and therapist directions are clearly given. In all, there are over 80 complete therapy sessions offered in this curriculum.
A companion writing journal coordinates with the curriculum. It offers additional resources for treatment both within the group and as homework assignments.
This group curriculum is written for girls ages 8-15, but can easily be adapted to other ages, including young adults. Many of the handouts, exercises, role plays, and writing topics can also be effectively used in individual therapy.
This book, including the curriculum and companion journal, will provide a therapist with the understanding and tools to start and run a successful sexual abuse treatment group.
