About the Book

The story begins 100 years ago in Syria (now Lebanon) and ends at Camden, Maine in the United States of America. It is about a 10-year-old girl, whose mother had died in childbirth and her grandmother told her about America. Due to an unpleasant step-mother, Arzizeh wished to leave home and a relative had promised to take care of her in Eastport, Maine. However, after the young girl arrived, the relative had changed her mind and was going back to the "old country." She was left in a strange country, whose language she did not speak with no relatives nor money. The story tells what her life was like. It is a historical novel about my own mother.
