About the Book
This is a true story about the life of a young man who had a most horrific accident when he was only twenty two years of age. He was left bereft of speech, movement and even the ability to breathe unaided but his brain was intact and he was determined to make the most of what he had got rather than dwelling on what might have been.
His indomitable spirit and enthusiasm for life shines through even with all the odds stacked against him. He retained full mental capabilities and never lost his sense of humour which is so apparent in this book. Peter could see the funny side of most eventualities.
About the Author
I live in Essex on the edge of Epping Forest with my patient husband Dave and mongrel dog Sally. We are surrounded by a loving family including five very precious grandchildren.
I became an authoress to fulfil a promise I made to our dear son Peter, a number of years ago. He wanted to write his autobiography so that people would have something to remember him by after he had died. Sadly the pressures of daily living thwarted his ambitions in this regard but I told him I would get his life into print.
I felt so close to him whilst I was writing and am sure he was guiding me, urging me forward and reminding me of incidents he wanted included in his story. If it hadn't been for Peter, I don't think I would ever have managed this. His life was so interesting, it had to be recorded. He was a real pioneer in the field of independent living for people with severe disabilities. Hopefully his story will inspire others in similar situations so they too can see there can be a worthwhile life even if you do have very severe disabilities.
I am always willing to pass on my experiences as a carer to families, other carers and professional staff in the statutory bodies.
