In winter, the pounding surf and a howling wind-song lash out. An ageless cedar plank house sits warm, cozy. A tribal storyteller weaves a mesmerizing story of tribal history. All eyes and ears respectfully listen to the endless rhythm of a story melody, a sweet lullaby of old. Forever, whispers from a people living in the green valley of the Chetco, Oregon territory. Where the Pacific Ocean rolls onto the sandy beaches, waves upon waves. This is my homeland, although Grandfather Tyee, (chief) Nel-yet-ah-we-shu along with his people, were removed north to the Siletz Indian Reservation, far from the lands of our ancestors. This I say. We have never forgotten the love and respect of the land and all connected to it. I am a storyteller, third oldest from a family of ten brothers and sisters. With children and grandchildren, the stories continue on...
