About the Book

General Blumentritt and Field Marshal von Rundstedt meet in Rundstedt’s house in Bavaria. General Blumentritt is gathering material for a book about the Field Marshal. Kurt Eber, Blumentritt’s driver, and Anna Schmidt, Rundstedt’s housekeeper, supply their version of the events the two Generals are discussing, putting a human face on them. What the Generals discussed but did not put into their book is included in this book.

About the Author

Stephen Douglas Hayes was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, served in the US Navy, and has lived and worked in California most of his life. A person who has been fascinated by and studied WWII extensively, Mr. Hayes became intrigued with what was left out of official accounts of the war by the generals running the military side. This book provides one possible scenario, and attempts to give a balanced account of the war from the official point of view as well as the counterpoint of the people’s experience.
