About the Book

The author's first book entitles The Road Across the Bridge was a relaxed tuition in the art of Bridge and was aimed at the newcomer who wanted to learn Bridge right from scratch. This book is aimed at the person who has played Bridge in the past and would like to play again but is a little 'rusty' and at those folk who play Bridge but feel a refresher would improve their game.

There are so many people who play Bridge regularly whose game would be so much better if they learnt some of the common conventions and discards that are played at the various Bridge clubs. The author admits he is very much Mr Average and no way an expert at Bridge but he has written this book in a very down to earth fashion setting out clearly the game of Bridge through his eyes. The popular conventions are explained in detail as are the various well known discard methods and some thought on what cards to lead and play which often cause players a headache. There are also a few words on some of the laws of Bridge which are often a 'grey area' to the average club member.

The bidding process is discussed in easy stages and there are plenty of illustrations and clear to follow explanations but it's not all Bridge however because, intermingled with the so called words of wisdom are bits of nonsense on some of life's happenings and his wife Margaret takes some stick in some light hearted criticisms about her Bridge play.

About the Author

Bryan left school at 16 and started with a bank and twenty or so years later he joined one of his customers who specialised in the sale of private residential care homes to set up a finance section. He retired in the early 90's and through one of his Mother's friends was introduced to Bridge. 15 years later, after moving to the English Sussex Coast and joining a local Bridge club, several of Bryan's new neighbours wanted to learn the game and from there the first book and lessons started. Bryan has been married to Margaret for 45 years and has a son John and daughter Mandy and three grandchildren.
