Each story evokes the short lives of Ottawa Valley volunteers who joined the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian air Force and the Canadian Army, went to war in Europe and did not come home (except those few who returned in boxes). A fascinating history of a small Canadian town's supreme contributions to world war. A story that could be set in any community in Canada.

About the Author

This is Larry Gray's second book in his "Faces to Names" project. His first, We Are The Dead contained the stories of the war dead of the Great War.

Larry served 24 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces, flying as a navigator. He then worked for veterans, first as a disability pension advocate, then as an adjudicator. He became interested in battlefields and war cemetaries during a posting to Germany. In 1986 he developed and led a Legion tour of veterans and youth to military sites and cemetaries of both World Wars.

Larry continues his interest in the social side of soldiers stories. He lives in Carleton Place, Ontario and Stanley Bridge, PEI, with his wife, Gloria.
